Call for Papers

Save the date for the 15th International Web for All Conference (W4A’18, which is to convene in Lyon, France, April 23-25th (http://www.w4a.info) Co-located with The Web Conference 2018 (www2018).

The conference focuses on all aspect of web accessibility. Areas of general interest include, but are not limited to the following: age, cognition, culture, education, emotions, dexterity, disability, diversity, health, hearing, income, infrastructure, language, learning, literacy, mobility, situation, society, and vision.

The 2018 theme is “Internet of Accessible Things”. In addition to work in the traditional core areas of W4A, we are also interested in work that explores the use, potential, and perils of the Internet of Things phenomenon for accessibility. In keeping with this year’s theme, we particularly welcome submissions that address the following topics:

  • Making IoT More Accessible
  • New IoT to Improve Accessibility
  • IoT Applications in the Connected Workplace
  • Novel Application of IoT to Improve Accessibility
  • IoT Use and Expectations by People with Disabilities
  • Machine learning and AI for Accessibility

  • Cloud Computing and IoT that Deliver Accessible Experiences Everywhere
  • Leveraging IoT for Inclusive Work and Education
  • Accessible Smart Homes, Cities, and Transportation
  • Wearable Devices and Technology
  • Access, Digital Assistants, and Intelligent Agents
  • Remote Healthcare and Robotics
  • IoT, Big Data, and Analytics

We are delighted to announce our keynote speakers, Amy Hurst, Associate Professor at UMBC and Helen Petrie, Professor of Human Computer Interaction at the University of York.

Submit 10-page technical or 4-page communication papers detailing engineering solutions and scientific insights into Web and Mobile technologies addressing diverse user needs. Submit 2-page extended abstracts to enter the The Paciello Group Web Accessibility Challenge or for consideration for inclusion in the Google Doctoral Consortium. All submissions will be published in the ACM Digital Library.

Intuit will award $2000 and $1000 respectively to the best technical and communication papers. IBM will provide travel grants to the winners of the People with Disabilities Student Award. The Paciello Group will sponsor the Judges’ and Delegates’ awards to the winners of the Accessibility Challenge. Google will provide support of up to $1000 for students to participate in the Google Doctoral Consortium which is currently scheduled to be held on April 22nd, the day before the main conference.   • Submissions to Accessibility Challenge, IBM PWD Award and Doctoral Consortium: January 21, 2018
  • Author Notification: February 7, 2018
  • Rebuttal Period: February 8-14, 2018
  • Final Decisions: February 21, 2018
  • Camera Ready Copy Due: February 28, 2018
