Call for Volunteers

We seek student volunteers for the 19th International Web for All Conference (W4A’22). In exchange for one full day equivalent of work, students will receive a free pass to the W4A conference. We encourage undergraduate students as volunteers, as well as PhD and MSc students.

Since W4A’22 will be a virtual event, volunteer tasks may include:

  • Logistics: set up the chat and presentation infrastructure
  • Helpdesk: troubleshoot technical issues during the conference
  • Program Support: facilitate video presentations and virtual rooms during the conference

Application instructions:

Applicants are required to submit the following to pc2022@w4a.info by Wednesday 14th April, 2022:

  • A document including:
    • Full name
    • Degree Program (B.Sc., M.Sc., or Ph.D.)
    • University or College
    • A free-form letter (500 word) about their interest in the conference
  • Proof of enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program.

Google Student Scholarships

We are happy to announce the 2022 Google Student Scholarships. These scholarships (USD 500 each) are intended for graduate students (i.e., Master and PhD students) working on web accessibility-related projects in developing and least developed countries, as well as in under-represented institutions. Undergraduate students can also apply but graduate students will be given higher priority.

Benefits and Expectations

  • Awardees will receive the Google Student Scholarship certificate.
  • W4A will reimburse registration costs for awardees.
  • Awardees are expected to attend all 2 days of the conference.
  • Awardees may be asked to elaborate on their ideas in one of the W4A sessions.

Application Instructions

Applicants are required to submit the following to google.scholarship@w4a.info by April 1st, 2022:

  1. A document including:
    • Full name
    • Degree Program (B.Sc., M.Sc., or Ph.D.)
    • University or College
    • A free-form abstract (500-1000 words) about their project.
  2. Proof of enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program.

Selection criteria

  • The scholarship is open to undergraduate and graduate students in any discipline. A proof of enrollment is required.
  • Scholarships will be given only to students working in developing countries, least developed countries or under-represented institutions.
  • Scholarship recipients will be selected to maximize diversity, and impact.
  • The scholarship CANNOT be combined with the Google Doctoral Consortium or the IBM People with Disabilities Students Award.

IBM People with Disabilities Students Award

W4A is happy to announce the IBM People with Disabilities Student Award. The award (USD 500) will introduce them to the community of W4A researchers and practitioners who are working to make Web, Mobile, and Wearable devices accessible for all.IBM Logo

    • A free-form abstract (500-1000 words) discussing their ideas and vision for solving the accessibility problems that they face due to their own disabilities.
  2. Proof of enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program

Selection criteria

  • Awardees have to use assistive technology to access Web, Mobiles, or Wearables.
  • The award is open to undergraduate and graduate students in any discipline. A proof of enrollment is required.
  • Awards will be given only to students who have certifiable physical disabilities.
  • Awardees will be selected to maximize diversity, and impact.
  • The award CANNOT be combined with the Google Doctoral Consortium or the Google Student Scholarship.
  • The award CANNOT be awarded twice to the same person.
