OzeWAI Expert Panel: Accessibility Legislation and Standards

  • Brigitta (Bri) Norton (moderator)
Bri is a Digital Strategist and User Experience and Accessibility specialist based in Canberra, Australia and has been an Accessibility Lead for both State and Federal Government and is currently a Digital Accessibility Consultant at Ability Works. Bri has more recently co-developed inclusive research workshops to share how to include accessibility earlier in the project lifecycle which includes engaging with people with disability as part of inclusive research activities.
Amongst her professional experience with government agencies and local businesses, Bri is the co-chair for Australia’s Web Accessibility Initiative OZeWAI.org, a Standards Australia Accessible ICT Procurement Committee Member and a member of the ResearchOps.Community Cheese Board.
  • Kylie Pollock
Kylie is an Accessibility Manager with The Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CommBank), Founder of A11yPals Accessibility Consulting and a person living with disabilities.
Kylie lives with photosensitivity, C-PTSD, Chronic Daily Migraines and Cluster Headaches, which just means she is not afraid of hard work, a little pain (or a lot for that matter). Kylie comes from a software engineering background and moved into digital accessibility approximately 7 years ago, following a life changing medical event. Since then she has worked with large and small organisations including Australia’s largest insurance agency, Australia’s largest bank, Australian Disability Network, Australian and New Zealand government departments and has contributed to the New Zealand government’s Web Accessibility Guidance Program.
Kylie is most recognisable from the array of colourful hair bows which adorn her short hair and the roller-skates generally strapped to her feet.
  • Dr Talitha Kingsmill
Dr Talitha Kingsmill is the Queensland Disability Research Network (QDRN) Lead and a Senior Research Fellow at Griffith University Inclusive Futures: Reimagining Disability research alliance. Talitha is also a Queenslanders with Disability (QDN) Board Director and sits on a selection of national and state-based panels including the National Disability Data Asset Disability-Informed Ethical Oversight Panel. She is a passionate advocate for equitable, accessible opportunities for all.
Talitha has 25 years’ experience across the private and public sectors in education, leadership, consultancy, research, law, digital citizenship, regulatory compliance, policy development and disability inclusion. In 2017, Talitha became the first Doctor in the field of digital citizenship in Australia.
Talitha’s lived and professional experience provides rich insights to the confronting and very real challenges and obstacles for people living with impairment and disability. She believes that access in all its forms is fundamental to equitable opportunity so that individuals may live their best lives. Keynote speaking at international and national conferences equips Talitha to be a powerful and articulate advocate. Talitha has received an Australian Council for Educational Leaders Research in Educational Leadership and Management Award (2017), an Australian Catholic University Higher Degree Research Award (2012) and ACU Top Graduate Award – Graduate Diploma in Education (Secondary) & Graduate Certificate (RE).
